Put Google to work keeping tabs on the competition. It’s easy and it’s free! Every successful small business needs a presence on the web. You say you’ve got a web site? Well, so does your competition. Wouldn’t you like to know what your competition is doing to promote themselves online? Maybe find out how they are using the internet to promote their business?
This type of valuable information can help you “keep up with the Joneses” or maybe blow past them if they don’t know what they’re doing.
No, you don’t need to hire an industrial spy. There’s a fast and easy way to keep tabs on the competition.
Set up a FREE Google Alert that will automatically send you emails telling you how your competitor’s doing online.
Another FREE service is at TalkWalker.com
Here’s all you have to do:
Go to www.Google.com/alerts
[item icon=”ok”]Enter one or more keywords you believe your customers are using to search for your products. (For example, Botox, Benjamin Moore paints, Italian restaurants, Angelina Jolie, laser hair removal, and so on.)[/item]
[item icon=”ok”]Choose the Comprehensive option to automatically monitor all different media types (including YouTube videos) in addition to blog postings or news.[/item]
[item icon=”ok”]Specify how often you want to receive updates in an e-mail (I like getting them once a week.)[/item]
[item icon=”ok”]Choose the number of results (up to 50) you want to see in each email alert.[/item]
[item icon=”ok”]Enter your email address and click Create Alert.[/item]
The results will give you a snapshot of how you’re matching up with the competition. Don’t worry, Google won’t use your email for anything else, or share your address with others.
I’ve been using this for years now and it works!
